Green Mountain Boxwood FAQ

How Fast Does Green Mountain Boxwood Grow?

You can expexct this boxwood to grow faster than the other varieties at up to 6" per year to a mature height of 4-6 feet.

Why Is My Boxwood Losing Leaves?

Rootrot is a known cause for your boxwood losing foliage and dying in the center. Make sure to plant your shrub in well drained soil and not let water pool on the surface.

How To Winterize A Boxwood

If your shrubs are potted, put them in a spot that is protected from freezing temps and chilly winter breezes. Cover the surface over the root system with a few layers of mulch and the shrub itself can be protected from cold temperatures with burlap.

Green Mountain Boxwood Care

Green Mountain Boxwoods grow in full sun to part shade. They adapt well to a variety of well-draining soils. Water deeply twice weekly when newly planted to help the roots grow properly. Add 2-3 inches of mulch to help your new plants stay moist. Once established this boxwood is drought tolerant. However, boxwoods will perform best when watered once weekly during dry periods, including in winter. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow release fertilizer to give your boxwood a boost. Pruning can be done anytime of the year. However, it is best to avoid pruning in late fall as pruning will stimulate new growth that will be too tender to survive the freezing, winter temperatures.

This boxwood is deer, rabbit, and pollution tolerant as well as pest and disease resistant.

Landscape ideas

The Green Mountain Boxwood is stunning in the landscape. Its conical shape perfectly accents traditionally round boxwood varieties. Plant in a mixed bed or use in foundation plantings to add property value. The Green Mountain stands up to heavy pruning so get creative! Prune into a topiary spiral, oval, or a pyramid for a bold look that you will love showing off! Grow this boxwood bush in containers for a high-end look that will have your neighbors oohing and aahing! Accent your deck, patio, porch, or entryway with this unique boxwood. Green Mountain Boxwoods look great in a hedge too. Plant 1.5 to 2 feet apart for a tight hedge. To give your shrubs plenty of defined space give them 3.5 to 4 feet. No matter how you use the Green Mountain Boxwood, it will transform your home and garden into a luxurious retreat.
