However there are times of the year that offer the best results, but it varies slightly depending on your region. The best times to plant daylilies in the south is fall or early spring. For the northern US the ideal planting time is spring. This takes some of the guesswork of planting them in the ground. Water you plant thoroughly right before planting. Dig a hole about twice the size of the pot your plant came in. When you place your daylily in the hole be sure the top of the root ball is just slightly higher than the existing soil line. Backfill the soil and tamp in down gently with your hands.
