How To Care

Plant the Jazz Hands® Variegated Loropetalum anytime of the year. Just take care to water more often when planting in summer.

This loropetalum thrives in full to part sun and is adaptable, but prefers slightly acidic, moist but well-drained soil. Water thoroughly when planted. Provide a deep watering once or twice per week until established. Once established Loropetalum are fairly drought tolerant and only need water during dry spells. They do tend to flower better in a soil that is kept slightly moist. Add 2-3 inches of mulch when planting. Mulch will protect the roots in extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist. Fertilize with a slow release, balanced fertilizer in early spring. No pruning is necessary. However, Loropetalum can tolerate heavy pruning if you prefer. After your bush is done flowering is the best time to prune. This shrub does flower on old wood so avoid heavy pruning in winter or early spring.

Lacking Variegation

Saw these Jazz Hands Variegated Lorapetalum plants last year, but once I was ready to plant, I was unable to find any locally. Pleasantly surprised to find them on this site. Sent almost immediately and came within 2 days. Ordered three 3 gallon plants. Two arrived boxed together, fairly mature, but with a couple broken branches. Overall, decent condition. The third was packed separately. It was much smaller, less dense, and difficult to plant due to it’s weak, immature root system. I was disappointed in the lack of variegation of all 3. Those I had seen previously were much lighter in color and had multiple light pink, purple, or cream color variegated leaves on each stem/stalk. Other than a couple leaves, these look just like the other lorapetalum I already have. This may be related to maturity or growing season, guess only time will tell.

Jazz hands for the yard

It was easy to find the JazzHands on line. I had been searching at local nurseries and there were none. I ordered them online, rec’d them in a few days and planted them right away. So far so good. I will shop for plants this way again.

Verigated loropetalum

The plants are beautiful and unique. 1st came across them at local nursery. They really add color and beauty to my yard. Nobody else has them in their yard which I like. Plants came in good shape wish they were a little more mature. Other than that they were in good shape. A local nursery owner got all excited about them. She loves their uniqueness and beauty. In fact she ordered some to sell at her nursery. I might be responsible for a new trend around here.
