Description

The Greensboro Red Camellia is a wonderful evergreen shrub that can also be used as a small ornamental tree. It is a compact shrub with an upright growing habit and smooth grey branches that hold dark green, oval shaped, glossy foliage. Foliage is present all year with beautiful flowers showing from late winter to early spring. The flowers are great for cutting and are light red in color.

The Greensboro Red Camellia is a great addition to your landscape. With multi season interest, this shrub be sure to be a perfect accent and/or focal point. Bear in mind, that this Camellia prefers partial sun to partial shade and is best to plant in afternoon sun only. Use it as a foundation shrub that will provide a great dark green backdrop to flowering perennials such as the hosta. Try this Camellia for a gorgeous privacy barrier. With foliage being prominent all year around, it will accommodate your screening needs. It not only offers year-round foliage, but it also displays beautiful flowers in the winter months when other plants do not produce flowers!

The Greensboro Red Camellia prefers partially shaded areas and acidic soil. It is extremely important that the shrub is not planted in an area where it gets direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will scorch the plant. It is best to plant where dappled sunlight or filtered sunlight is present. If you choose to prune your camellias, prune right after flowers have finished blooming. Prune out dead or weak branches to control the size and growth of the shrub and to renew vigor to old plants.

How To Care

Be sure to choose an appropriate location for your Camellia.

Planting Time: Plant any time of the year taking care to avoid temperature extremes on either end of the spectrum.

Sun: Part sun to part shade

Soil: Fertile, acidic, moist, but well drained

Watering: When newly planted, water deeply at least twice weekly. Camellias prefer a moist soil, but water requirements do diminish as the plant ages and is able to shade its own roots.

Mulching: Mulching is a great way to keep the roots cool, soil moist, and add nutrients to the soil.

Pruning: Prune after flowering if needed to remove dead and dying branches or correct aesthetic or structural issues

Beautiful camellias

I bought a pair from each of 4 types of camellias to cover their blooming season. They were in perfect condition. Since winter I have also bought 3 gardenias and 2 blueberry bushes from them. The gardenias are now covered in blooms even though they sat inside for 2 months and I am eating the sweetest blueberries everyday. These are the growers to trust! .
