How to Care

L.A. Dreamin® Hydrangea Care

Provide a good soaking 2-3 times per week for the first season, once a week after the plant is established.

LA Dreamin Hydrangea will respond well to organic fertilizers or slow release fertilizer, just look for one that is formulated for Hydrangeas.Fertilize only in spring and early summer. You should avoid fertilizing in late summer and fall as you want the plant to focus on developing buds at this time, rather than pushing new growth that could be later injured by fall frosts or freezes.

You may know that the flower color of Hydrangeas is usually a result of the pH of the soil. If your soil is more neutral or alkaline, your Hydrangea will likely produce more pink flowers. If you are unsure of your soil pH, you can buy a soil test kit at your local garden store.

The flowers you enjoy during the season from LA Dreamin Hydrangea are a result of all the hard work it did at the end of last season. It is very important not to prune beyond the end of July//early August because you risk pruning away all of next years flowers.

If you want to shape your plant, it's best to do so immediately following a heavy flowering (likely in June or early July). Light shaping won't affect blooms for the following year.

If you want remove spent flowers, you can do so at any time but you'll need to be mindful about where to cut. For the best success, follow the guidelines below.

LA Dreamin is a macrophylla type Hydrangea. It will bloom on both new wood (this season's growth) and old wood (last season's growth), but the best flowering is on old wood. In more Southern climates, LA Dreamin Hydrangea is often a better re-bloomer.

Quick but tough on plants

Plants came on time, very quick. One was falling out of the pot and the soil was half in the bag it was wrapped in. Got them in the ground later that day, jury is still out on how they do long term.

Love Hydrangeas!

So far so good! I hope they survive my care!

Hydrangea Hedge

I purchased 6 plants to start a large hedge. Plants came 2 to a box, on time, and in great shape. Very healthy. I used the recommended soil probiotic when planting, 1 bag to each plant. That was 1 month ago and my plants are doing so well. I didn’t lose one leaf. Not one little brown spot. I already have new growth. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and will be using this site again for items not found at my local nurseries.
