Amethyst Falls Wisteria Vine Care

Planting

When planting your Amethyst Falls Wisteria be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new plant to thrive. Spring and fall are ideal times to plant although as long as the conditions aren't extreme you can plant your wisteria throughout the year.

The Amethyst Falls Wisteria can grow in full sun to part shade, but more sun will provide the most blooms. While Wisteria prefer moist, well-drained, fertile soil, they are quite adaptable and even drought tolerant once established.

Watering

Water deeply with a hose about 2 times weekly for the first 2 to 3 months.

Fertilizing

Adding about 2 inches of mulch will help protect the roots, control weeds, and maintain moisture in the ground. Fertilize in spring with a slow release fertilizer.

Maintenance

Wisteria bloom only on new growth. So pruning is helpful for getting the most out of your blooms. Prune at least 1/2 of the prior years growth in late winter for best results.

Give your wisteria plenty of room and a good support system to grow on. Remember it can grow on just about anything so if you don't want it growing on your home be sure it isn't planted too close or keep it trimmed to avoid it going where you don't want it.

Wisteria plants don't tend to have problems with pests, disease, or deer.

Landscape ideas

The Amethyst Falls Wisteria climbs walls, fences, trellises and more, transforming them into a true vision! It is an inexpensive way to mask an unsightly fence. Allow this clinging vine to grow up an arbor or creep along the ground in a lovely cottage garden. This vine can be used as a unique ground cover. Allow it to choose its own path, crawling along the ground, over rocks, and down slopes and low walls. Wisteria can be used in place of  ivy for the walls of your home. It is deciduous so it helps conserve energy by allowing sun to penetrate in winter and shading your home from the sun in summer.
