Pick a spot in grow zones 4-7 that has well drained soil and full sun to part shade conditions.

What Are Good Companion Plants For This Shrub?

Barberry, heuchera, and clematis pair well with spirea in perennial beds, groundcovers and mass plantings.

When Should I Prune This Shrub?

Prune and shape after flowering has finished. Trim back up to 1/3 of your plant when rejuvenation pruning in late winter or early spring for best results.

Double Play Candy Corn Spirea Care

As long as you avoid extreme temps you can plant your Double Play Candy Corn Spirea almost anytime from spring through fall.

This Spirea thrives in full to part sun and is adaptable to any moist, well-drained soil. Water deeply when planting and 2 times per week for the first 3 months while your plant is establishing. After about a year in the ground Spireas are drought tolerant. They will perform best if you keep them watered deeply once per week when there is drought in spring and summer, especially for the first 2 years. Add 1-2 inches of mulch to prevent weeds and reduce watering requirements. Fertilize with a slow release fertilizer in spring.

Deadheading is not necessary for Candy Corn Spirea. However, if you want to prune your Spirea plant for shape prune after it has finished flowering. This will promote colorful new growth. Spirea bushes do respond well to pruning, especially when used to rejuvenate older plants. Prune up to 1/3 of your plant when rejuvenation pruning in late winter or early spring for best results. This plant blooms on new wood.

Landscape ideas

The Double Play Candy Corn Spirea is perfect as an edging around a walkway or patio and looks great as a border around a bed. This dwarf spirea fits into any landscape and is ideal for containers. The colorful foliage offers lovely contrast to a green lawn and traditional green landscape plants.

Plant in groups of 3 or more.  Even larger clusters will bring out a bigger pop of color. These Spirea also look nice staggered in a mixed bed.

Plant Candy Corn Spirea about 3 feet apart to allow for separation when fully matured. For a tight border plant them 1.5 feet apart.
