How to Care
Plant Fuyu Persimmon Trees in full sun in USDA growing zones 7 to 10. They are adaptable to most soil types.
Water deeply when planting and a couple times weekly for the first 2 to 3 months. Once established, Persimmon Trees are drought tolerant. But watering deeply every couple weeks from spring through harvest especially when conditions are dry will help your tree grow and fruit better.
Feed your Fuyu Persimmon Tree once yearly in spring with a balanced, slow release fertilizer.
Prune your Persimmon Tree in late winter or early spring using open vase or open center pruning. This allows proper sunlight penetration and air circulation. Prune back ⅓ of all branches to a bud that is facing the direction you want the tree to grow. Remove all crossed and crowded branches within the center of the tree crown. Remove any suckers or vigorous upright shoots, as well as sick, broken, or dead branches when you notice them.
Harvest fruit when it has turned from yellow to orange, generally in mid September, October, or November. Persimmon fruit can bruise when picked so trimming fruit off right where it is attached to the tree is ideal.
