How To Care

Be sure to choose the best location for your Grey Owl Juniper. As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant your Juniper almost any time of the year.

Junipers thrive in full sun to part sun and adapt to any soil that is well drained. They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic). Junipers are great "street shrubs" as they tolerate pollution and salt well. After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist and protect the lower branches from fungal issues. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease. Water your Juniper deeply a couple times a week for the first month or two. After your plants are established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells. Junipers are drought tolerant after establishing and even more so after being in the ground about two years. Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with our slow release fertilizer.

Junipers are extremely hardy and versatile. When properly cared for, they rarely have issues with pests and disease. Mites and scale are insects that can occasionally affect Junipers. These can be treated with horticultural oil. For severe infections the pesticide Bonide is recommended. Avoid saturated soils to prevent fungal issues in Junipers.

Landscape Ideas

The deep blues of this Juniper will really pull out the greens, yellows, and reds of other shrubs and perennials. Plant in a mixed bed for sharp contrast in both texture and color. This evergreen adds year-round interest. Groupings of 3 or 5 are stunning and make a colorful impact in the landscape. Junipers are also great for controlling erosion so you can even plant on hills or slopes.

Plant each Juniper about 4 feet apart for a border and at least 5 feet apart for individual spacing.

Nice plants, very convenient

I bought 3 gray owl junipers. They were in good shape, and hope they grow to be a nice base planting by our house's foundation. The only reason I’m deducting 1 start is that 2 of the 3 had “wimpy” roots that didn’t fill their pots, while one had so many roots it was somewhat potbound. I have a feeling it won’t make a difference once they’re established, but wanted to mention it.

Perfect Product...the 2nd time...

The initial order came just as promised, well packaged and healthy plant, just the wrong plant. I contacted customer support and after proving I received the incorrect plant, they quickly remedied the issue with the proper and healthy plant.
