Vokel's Upright Hinoki Cypress Care

The Vokel's Upright Hinoki Cypress is a fairly easy plant to grow. Look forward to disease and pest resistance in this hardy dwarf evergreen. Once established these slow growing shrubs are drought tolerant.

Be sure not to let your new trees dry out within the first few months before they are established. Water deeply about 2 times per week rather than smaller amounts several times per week. This ensures that the roots grow properly. We recommend watering your trees as soon as they arrive even before you plant them. This will ensure that the roots are moist and ready for planting. Adding 2 inches of mulch is a great choice for newly planted Hinoki Cypress. This will help keep the soil moist during the crucial early period when the roots are acclimating to their new home. Watering in times of drought will encourage faster growth and a healthier plant.

Plant your Falsecypress in full sun to part shade. This conifer is adaptable to various soil types and environmental conditions. Just be sure the soil drains well whether in the ground or a container. Overly wet soil tends to be where most fail with this plant. It can cause disease especially in containers.  Look for a pot with several drainage holes. Fertilize when planting and once yearly in spring with our balanced slow release fertilizer. There is no need to prune your Japanese Cypress.
