Description

The Pieris Mountain Fire is a fabulous and unique evergreen shrub that adds bold color to your landscape with only minimal maintenance. Evergreen, shade and drought tolerant, and low maintenance, this hardy shrub is perfect for foundation and mass plantings, but even stands alone as a focal with its exciting red and green foliage and sprays of prolific white blooms. The natural shape of this dwarf Pieris Japonica is mounded.

The Mountain Fire Pieris is a slow grower that reaches about 4 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide over the first 10 years. It will continue to grow, but rarely reaches over 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide at full maturity.

Key Features:

  •  The Mountain Fire Pieris has vibrant foliage. New leaves emerge shiny red in early spring. They age to green in summer and then often turn a deep red again.
  • This dwarf variety is great for small yards and gardens and even grows well in containers.
  • Shade tolerant! The Mountain Fire tolerates shade and a good bit of it! This is definitely a hard to find feature especially in a colorful, flowering evergreen!
  • A truly unique landscape shrub. The Pieris is so distinctive with its red foliage and cascading fragrant flower clusters your landscape will definitely stand out in the neighborhood.

Pro Tip: The Pieris Mountain Fire is the most cold hardy broadleaf evergreen you will find with such exceptional color and flowering. It is recommended for US planting zones 5 to 8.

How To Care

The Pieris Mountain Fire grows in full sun to part shade. It adapts well to a variety of well-draining soils, but prefers slightly acidic, fertile soil. Water deeply twice weekly when newly planted to help the roots grow properly. Add 2 inches of mulch to help your new plants stay moist and the roots protected. Once established your Pieris is drought tolerant. However, this shrub will perform best when watered once weekly during dry periods. Fertilize when planting and in early spring with a balanced, slow release fertilizer to give your shrub a boost. Prune after flowering for best results.

Pieris Mountain Fire is deer resistant and more pest resistant than other varieties.

Pieris and Rosemary

Came in beautiful shape. Want to tell you that I purchased the rosemary for the hummingbirds. Although it does not have cutting flowers, it blooms here, near Seattle, all winter long and the hummingbirds love those little blue flowers when nothing else is blooming for them. All four plants look great. The Pieris too has flowers in spring that the hummingbird and bee love. Thanks, Ruth

Problem solved!

I initially received what appeared to be a very recently potted up plant in a 3 gallon pot. The plant had not yet established roots in the larger pot. I contacted support with photos and they approved a replacement. It's perfect! It's exactly what I was looking for. Healthy with good roots. It's even the exact same size as an existing shrub, I couldn't have selected it better. Thank you! I will be back.

Excellent Size and Quality Plants

The greatest surprise to me was the size and quality of the plants I ordered - a Mountain Fire Pieris and 3 Variegated Liriope. I've been ordering plants on-line for 6 or 7 yrs. now and these plants are the largest and healthiest I've ever received. I'm so happy to have discovered this nursery.
