Looking for a great groundcover that is as tough as it is easy? Want a great, rustic look that lasts all year? Sick and tired of mowing that nasty slope in your yard? Need to fill in a bare spot with minimal height? Looking to create a zen oasis or rock garden?

Sounds like the Dwarf Japanese Garden Juniper is just what you need. Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' is a dwarf, groundcover juniper that grows in a lovely, cascading fashion that flows outward along the ground, over rocks, or down a wall or container for a stunning, natural look that you just cannot beat. The lush foliage is a vivid green that transitions to hints of blue and purple as temperatures drop.

This hardy evergreen is drought, deer, pollution, and salt spray tolerant as well as pest and disease resistant. The Garden Juniper enjoys full to part sun and can grow in any soil, even rocky, sandy soil. Just be sure to avoid locations that have standing water. This lush groundcover grows only 6-12 inches tall but grows up to 6 feet wide.

You are sure to fall in love with the look of the Dwarf Japanese Garden Juniper no matter how you utilize it!

Dwarf Japanese Garden Juniper Care

Be sure to choose the best location for your Dwarf Japanese Garden Juniper. As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant your Juniper almost any time of the year.

This juniper thrives in full to part sun and adapts to any soil that is well drained. They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic). Junipers are great "street shrubs" as they tolerate pollution and salt well. After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist and protect the lower branches from fungal issues. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this can cause health issues. Water your Juniper deeply a couple times a week for the first month or two. After your plants are established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells. Junipers are drought tolerant after establishing and even more so after being in the ground about two years. Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with our slow release fertilizer.

Junipers are extremely hardy and versatile. When properly cared for, they rarely have issues with pests and disease. The Japanese Garden Juniper is pest and disease resistant and deer tolerant.
