Sago Palms are surprisingly low maintenance. Whether you plant your Sago in your yard or you use it as a houseplant, you will love how easy this tropical plant is to grow. Sago Palms are even deer, pest, and disease resistant.

A crown of stiff, feathery leaves sits atop a chubby, textured, brown trunk. The leaves are deep green and shiny. This tree has an attractive, symmetrical form.

This palm-like tree is slow-growing and has a long life expectancy. While Sago Palms can reach heights over 10 feet this can take many years. These tend to widen more than grow in height so they often function more like a shrub than a tree in the landscape.

Sago Palms grow in full sun to part shade. Once established, your Sago is drought tolerant. Add our balanced, slow-release fertilizer when planting and in early spring for best results. Sago Palms are hardy in zones 8-11. Cooler climates can plant in containers and move them inside in the winter to enjoy them year after year.

Sago Palms are great indoor plants as well. Use a high-quality planting medium like PlantingTree brand potting mix. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the pot you are repotting from and make sure it drains well. Water your Sago Palm houseplant when the potting soil is beginning to dry and be sure it gets some sunlight. That's it - a little water, a little sun! So easy!

Sago Palms are the perfect gift for any occasion.

Sago Palm Tree Care

Sago Palms prefer some shade in extremely hot climates like zones 10 and 11. In cooler zones this slow growing tropical grows in full sun to part shade. When newly planted in the ground water deeply about 2 times per week. Once established your Sago is drought tolerant. Add our balanced, slow release fertilizer when planting and in early spring for best results. In climates where the foliage gets cold damaged, simply prune back the dead foliage to allow new growth to emerge.

King Sago Palms are hardy in zones 8-11. Cooler climates can plant in containers and move them inside in the winter to enjoy them year after year.

Sago Palms are fantastic indoor plants as well. Use a high quality planting medium like our potting mix or Pittmoss Performance mix. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the pot you are repotting from and make sure it drains well. Water when the potting medium is beginning to dry.

Sago Palms are deer, pest, and disease resistant.

Landscape ideas
The King Sago Palm offers phenomenal texture contrast to traditional plants. Our Sago Palm and Windmill Palm both look beautiful around pools and patios. In warm climates this tropical tree is beautiful to frame your entryway. Plant in groups of 3 or 5 to create a bold tropical look. This exotic plant looks fantastic in containers and is ideal for use as a patio plant. Sago Palms even thrive indoors as a houseplant!
