Planting Directions

Watch this video or follow the 8 simple steps below to ensure that your tree or shrub thrives in your landscape.

A Step by Step Guide to Planting and Growing Healthy Plants

Here's what you'll need: a shovel, a hose, fertilizer, planting soil, and mulch.

Step 1

Unpack your plants right away!
They need sunlight and water to survive.

Step 2

Check how much sun your plant likes to receive before choosing a location for planting.

Step 3

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the middle of the hole and make sure that the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the surrounding ground.

Step 4

Before planting – break up the root ball so the roots will spread. Fill the hole with water. Do not use any hose attachments or sprayers.

Step 5

Mix soil removed from the hole with planting soil and back fill around the root ball. Carefully pack the soil to remove any air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly again!

Step 6

Fertilize around your plant with Slow-Release Fertilizer. Our special fertilizer has all of the nutrients to keep your plant growing and healthy. Repeat every 6 months.

Step 7

Finish up by mulching around your new plant. Apply up to 1-2" of mulch around the plant. Mulch will keep the soil moist and keep weeds out. Do not make any funnels or mounds.

Step 8

When watering, do not use any attachments and always water at the base of the plant.

Week 1: water 5-10 minutes daily
Week 2: 5-10 minutes 4x per week
Week 3: 5-10 minutes 3x per week
