How to Care for Pink Roses

Sunlight

Pink rose bushes grow and flower best in full sun, but can also grow well in partial sun conditions.

Soil

Plant roses in any well-drained soil or organic planting mix for potted roses.

Water

After planting rose plants water them thoroughly. For the first 2 to 3 months water deeply about 2 times per week. After this time your rose bush will be drought tolerant. Water during periods of extreme drought for best growth and flowering.

Do not water over the leaves of rose bushes. This increases the likelihood of fungal infections. Always water at the base of your rose plants.

Food

Feed rose bushes in spring with a slow-release fertilizer. Pink drift roses and knock out roses can be fertilized again in mid to late summer.

Alternatively, Fertilome Rose and Flower Fertilizer is an all-in-one insecticide and fertilizer that is applied every 2 months throughout the growing season.

Pruning

Minor pruning can be done at any time. Heavy pruning should be performed in early spring right before rose bushes emerge from dormancy. Knock out roses should be pruned back to about 1 foot while drift roses can be pruned back by about ⅓ to ½ if so desired.
