How to Care for White Roses

Sunlight

Plant white rose bushes in full sun for the most prolific blooming.

Soil

Rose plants can adapt to any well-drained soil. Use a good quality organic planting mix for potted roses.

Water

Water newly planted white rose plants thoroughly 2 times per week for the first 2 to 3 months. Established roses are drought tolerant, but will perform best when watered about once weekly during periods of drought. Water over the soil rather than over the leaves of rose plants in order to help prevent fungal disease.

Food

Apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring. White drift roses and knock out roses can be fed twice per year in spring and again in mid to late summer.

Fertilome Rose and Flower Fertilizer is an insecticide and fertilizer in one that can be used every 8 weeks during the growing season.

Pest and Disease Control

Treat insects, fungal disease, and mites with Fertilome Triple Action Plus. Neem oil is a natural alternative that treats insects and fungal infections.

Pruning

Prune rose bushes in early spring right before they emerge from dormancy. Trim knock out roses back to about 1 foot. Drift roses can be pruned back by about ⅓ to ½.
