Black Mondo Grass is a plant for our fun and funky customers looking for something completely different! This grass-like perennial has pretty white-lavender flowers during the summer months and lovely deep purple berries in fall. Dwarf Black Mondo Grass is resistant to pests and disease, low maintenance, and can be grown almost anywhere in the US. Growing to about 8 inches tall and up to 12 inches wide, Black Mondo Grass is a distinctive addition to any landscape!
Note: If you purchase this grass in fall-winter, it may be cut back for the plant’s health. If your grass is cut back, don’t worry - it will grow even happier and healthier next spring!
Why Is My Black Mondo Grass Turning Green?
This ornamental grass may become discolored and get root rot if the soil isnt well drained and it is being overwatered. This grass is susceptible to damage from snails and slugs that will cause it to wilt.
How To Clone This Grass?
The best way to propagate this grass is by dividing the rhizomes and planting them atleast 12" apart or in seperate containers.
Where Should I Plant Black Mondo Grass?
This grass is adaptable to a variety of soils and should be planted in a spot that has full sun to part shade conditions in grow zones 5-10. A unique groundcover that really pops along walkways.
Black Mondo grass is a clumping perennial grass that is extremely easy to care for. Be sure to plant your Mondo grass in growing zones 5 to 10. This plant grows well in full sun to part shade and is adaptable to a variety of soils as long as they drain well. Water deeply once or twice weekly when newly planted to help the roots grow properly. After establishment (about 3 months or so) this grass is drought tolerant. Keep your Black Mondo grass watered in extreme heat, especially in the first summer. Fertilize with a slow release, balanced fertilizer in spring for optimal growth. For a cleaner look, prune back your grass to about 2 inches prior to new spring growth. Mondo grass rarely has issues with pests. Disease is also rare unless this grass is grown in wet conditions. Mondo Grass is deer, rabbit, pollution, and salt tolerant.
