Brandywine Maple Tree
Acer rubrum 'Brandywine'Description
The Brandywine Maple is a stunning shade tree with great color. Small red blossoms steal the show in early spring even before the red-tinged green leaves emerge. These maple leaves mature to solid green before turning a bold crimson red in fall.
This tough red maple is cold hardy and adaptable. It is drought tolerant once established and can tolerate wet soil. This lovely tree makes an excellent street tree because of its high tolerance for air pollution. The Brandywine Maple tree is easy to grow and requires no maintenance once it is established. This fast growing shade tree offers fast shade for the home landscape. Brandywine is a seedless variety of red maple. It is referred to as a “male selection” because it does not produce seeds.

How To Care
Spring and fall are ideal times to plant the Brandywine Maple tree. However, if you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant this shade tree almost any time of the year.
The Brandywine Maple tree can grow in full sun to part shade. This shade tree is adaptable to most soils, but prefers moist, slightly acidic, and nutrient rich soil. Mulch this maple tree with a 1 to 2 inch mound of pine bark or pine straw after planting. Mulching helps keep the roots cool and moist. Keep the mulch away from the trunk. Water deeply at least once per week while your tree is establishing. Watering deeply less often helps the roots grow deeper and establish faster. The Brandywine Maple can tolerate wet sites, but it shouldn't be planted in standing water. Fertilize this tree in early spring and when planting with our slow release fertilizer to give your tree a boost. Maple trees don't generally require pruning, but, if needed, prune when they are dormant to clean up the canopy or maintain shape. For additional tips check out our article on Shade Tree Care.
The Brandywine Maple tree is pest and disease resistant.
