How To Care

When planting your Ruby Falls Redbud be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new tree to thrive. Spring and fall are ideal times to plant. However, if you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant almost any time of the year.

Redbuds are very easy to maintain. These trees tolerate full sun, part sun, and part shade and are adaptable to any soil as long as it isn't saturated. Water your new Redbud deeply about twice a week for the first couple months. After establishment, this redbud is drought tolerant. In extended drought periods this tree will benefit from a weekly deep watering. Add a layer of 2 of mulch around the base of the tree about the size of the tree canopy. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease. Fertilize in early spring and when planting to give your tree a boost. Choose a balanced, slow release fertilizer. Redbuds don't generally require pruning, but if needed, prune immediately after blooming has ceased to remove any dead, dying, crowded or crossed branches. Pruning in winter is likely to cause bloom loss.

The best way to prevent disease and pests is by providing the appropriate care for your plants. Proper location choice, watering and fertilization are the keys to your success. Avoid problems with Borer insects by ensuring your tree remains free from damage, especially from lawn equipment. Mulching helps to keep weeds at bay which eliminates the need to use lawn equipment near your tree. Borers look for a hole or weak spot to penetrate. Scale is an immobile insect that can affect almost any tree. You can treat this pest with horticultural oil. Be sure to coat the entire tree.

Was shipped an already damaged goods tree.

Bought a Ruby falls redbud on sale. Description did not say tree would be damaged goods. My pictures show the poor condition of the trunk of my tree. Why would they lop off the main trunk of this gorgeous tree? Also other sides of the trunk have damaged areas. 15% was not a good enough discount for this. This tree will have a damaged weak core the rest of it's days.

Ruby Falls Redbud

Our tree sent packaged very well. We were happy with the size and condition of the tree. We planted the tree immediately. It has lost a few leaves, but we are hoping that is to be expected. We are following all watering directions exactly. Hoping that it takes and that we can enjoy this beautiful tree!

Disappointing experience

We placed our order for the rubyfalls redbud tree based on the great reviews. Ordering process wa simple and we received the tree exactly when expected. I never thought I would be getting a lush mature plant but I did expect something healthy. This is their website picture of what we ordered and a picture of what we received. When contacted the company stated that plants are not grown in greenhouse and this is fine. I think not!

Ruby Falls Redbud

The tree arrived in 2 days and packaged very well, although branches were broken. Good planting and watering instructions were provided. My little tree has lost quite a few leaves due to dryness. I have watered multiple times per day according to instructions. I am hoping my tree survives. I will continue watering.

Beautiful Redbud

The packaging of the tree was really well designed so the tree arrived in excellent condition. Have not planted in the ground yet a week after arrival and it is thriving. Watering as directed.
