Plant in zones 6b to 9 for best results. Cooler zones can grow as a container or patio plant. There is no need for pruning, but this shrub tolerates heavy pruning if you prefer a manicured look. Cooler zones can grow as a container or patio plant. After planting water deeply 1-2 times per week. Once established the Distylium is drought tolerant. Water in periods of drought for best growth and flowering. Fertilize with a balanced, slow release fertilizer in spring. There is no need for pruning, but this shrub tolerates heavy pruning. Prune in early spring after flowering has ceased. This Distylium deer tolerant and pest and disease resistant.
