More InformationCryptomeria Radicans, Carolina Sapphire (Arizona) Cypress, and Green Giant Arborvitae are the best Fast-Growing privacy trees for zone 5. Planting in spring is best to give these trees plenty of time to establish before winter, but be sure to plant at least 6 weeks before the first hard freeze of the year. Mulch these trees in well for their first winter and provide a deep watering prior to the first hard freeze.
The best trees for zone 6 are Green Giant Thuja, Cryptomeria Radicans, and Carolina Sapphire Cypress. These Fast-Growing trees make excellent privacy screens and windbreaks. If you live in growing zone 7 you are pretty lucky because most Fast-Growing Evergreen Trees grow in your zone. Dig a hole 2 times as wide as the root ball and almost as deep. Place your tree in the hole and make sure the top of the root ball is level and slightly higher than the soil line. Backfill with the existing soil and water deeply until the water begins to pool on the surface. Add a layer of mulch to reduce watering needs, retain soil moisture, and keep weeds at bay. Extend the mulch a couple inches beyond the tree’s canopy. Use pine needles or pine bark to add acidity to the soil over time.
