The Burning Bush is immensely popular for having the brightest and boldest RED color of any shrub. I know what you're thinking...it has to be so much work to maintain a plant that is this gorgeous. Actually, no, not at all! This stunning shrub is extremely easy to grow and incredibly low maintenance!

The Burning Bush's lush foliage is a rich shade of green in spring through summer. In late summer the real show begins as this hardy shrub takes on its characteristic fiery red leaves. This eye-catching color lasts until the leaves drop in late fall or early winter. The habit of the young Burning Bush is upright and vase-shaped. As the Burning Bush matures the natural habit is rounded with horizontal, layered branching.

This hardy shrub will grow in full shade to full sun. Just take note that the fall foliage will be slightly muted and growth will be slower in shade. Once your burning bush is established, it will be drought tolerant. Fertilize at least once per year in spring with a high-quality, slow-release fertilizer like the one we carry.

A second dose of fertilizer in summer is recommended for ideal growth. If you have planted your burning bush in a hedge, just trim the tops and sides to encourage proper growth. Perform any heavy pruning when this shrub is dormant.

If you are looking for the Reddest Red you can find in a shrub, the Burning Bush is the plant for you! Order yours today!

Burning Bush Care

The Burning Bush is a very hardy and adaptable plant. Plant in full shade to full sun. Just take note that the fall foliage will be slightly muted and growth slower in shade. This shrub is adaptable to different environmental conditions and soil types. Water at time of planting and a couple times a week after planting. Once your burning bush is established, it will be drought tolerant. However, this shrub does prefer a moist soil. We recommend mulching your burning bush to help keep the soil moist. Spread about 2-3 inches of pinestraw or pine bark. These types of mulch will, overtime, add some acidity to your soil which the burning bush does prefer. Fertilize at least once per year in spring with a high quality, slow release fertilizer like the one we carry. A second dose of fertilizer in summer is recommended for ideal growth. If you have planted your burning bush in a hedge, just trim the tops and sides to encourage proper growth. Perform heavy pruning when this shrub is dormant.

Landscape ideas

Burning Bushes are ideal for hedges, screening out an area, or just as a specimen planting. This shrub will grow to about 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide so be sure to give it plenty of space when planting. For a tight hedge plant 4 to 6 feet apart. Burning Bushes are sure to grab attention in foundation plantings, privacy hedges, borders, entryways, mass planting, and even formal planting. And the best part...wherever this shrub is planted it will adapt to the conditions.
