View full detailsAnnuals are short lived plants that only survive for one growing season. Perennials die back to the ground in fall or winter, but come back in spring from their roots which survive over the winter. Annuals must be planted every year unless they are able to reseed themselves with seeds that can survive winter. Perennial plants do not have to be replanted and come back year after year.
Keep your potted perennial watered well until you are able to plant it. Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot. Place your plant in the hole and check to ensure the root ball is about ⅛ inch above the soil line. Backfill the soil and gently pack it down with your hands to eliminate any air pockets. Do not stomp the soil with your feet. This can compact your soil and is unhealthy for your plant. Water your newly planted perennial deeply. Add a layer of mulch to keep competing weeds away and help the soil retain water. Learn More About How to Plant Perennials
