Description

The Ruby Loropetalum is a great shrub for screening and adding rich, red color to the landscape. If you're looking for a shrub that's hard to kill, this one is for you! The Ruby Loropetalum is the most popular Loropetalum!

This Ruby Loropetalum produces bright, pink flowers in the spring and pushes out new growth. As the new growth hardens off, it turns from red to ruby. Check out our dwarf varieties if you need a more manageable size.

Loropetalums are evergreen! They hold their leaves throughout the winter months still adding ruby color to your otherwise barren landscape. The Ruby prefers full sun. The more sun it gets, the more color you will have.

This loropetalum will reach 6 feet tall and about 6 feet wide. In the landscape, this Loropetalum is great for hedges, natural areas, small privacy screenings, and berm plantings. Ruby Loropetalum can be paired with Gold Mop Cypress, Dianthus, and most other plants in your landscape. They break up all the green and function well. Use this loropetalum in the back of the landscape. They get large in size, so close to your house is not a good idea. We suggest planting out in the yard or in natural area where they can grow.

How To Care

Plant your Ruby Loropetalum anytime of the year. Just take care to water more often when planting in summer.

This loropetalum thrives in full to part sun and is adaptable, but prefers slightly acidic, moist but well-drained soil. Water thoroughly when planted. Provide a deep watering once or twice per week until established. Once established Loropetalum are fairly drought tolerant and only need water during dry spells. They do tend to flower better in a soil that is kept slightly moist. Add 2-3 inches of mulch when planting. Mulch will protect the roots in extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist. Fertilize in spring with a slow release, balanced fertilizer like the one we carry. No pruning is necessary. However, Loropetalum can tolerate heavy pruning if you prefer. After your bush is done flowering is the best time to prune. This shrub does flower on old wood so avoid heavy pruning in winter or early spring.

Pleasant Surprise

Was very impressed with the packing and quick transit. I was also impressed with Customer Support. Unfortunately, there were several broken limbs. But not of great concern.
