How to Plant Dwarf Flowering Trees?
First, water your Dwarf Flowering Tree thoroughly while it is still in the container. Next, dig a hole that is about twice as wide as the pot. Put your tree in the hole. You should be able to see the top of the root ball slightly over the soil line. Check the front, back, and sides to be sure your tree is evenly balanced. Fill the native soil back in around the root ball and water deeply. If your soil is poor, mix in up to 50% organic planting mix to improve the soil.
How to Care for Dwarf Flowering Trees
Most Flowering Dwarf Trees will perform best in full sun. Full sun helps flowering trees have better and more prolific blooms as well as better and faster growth. Once established most flowering dwarf trees require minimal if any watering unless it is extremely dry. Apply a slow release fertilizer in early spring. Mulching your flowering tree will help the soil hold moisture longer and reduce watering needs. It also protects the roots during severe temperatures.
Which Flowering Dwarf Trees Attract Butterflies?
You have several options when it comes to dwarf trees that butterflies enjoy. Redbuds are stunning and our dwarf redbud varieties are no exception. They provide plentiful nectar and pollen for butterflies and other pollinators. The Hydrangea tree, Pinky Winky, Delta Blues Chastetree (Vitex), and Wisteria trees like Blue Chinese Wisteria tree, are loved by butterflies for their prolific blooms and abundance of nectar. These trees have a longer bloom period than most flowering trees so you’ll enjoy more color and beauty in your garden.
