View full detailsCryptomeria Radicans, Carolina Sapphire (Arizona) Cypress, and Green Giant Arborvitae are the best Fast-Growing privacy trees for zone 5. Planting in spring is best to give these trees plenty of time to establish before winter, but be sure to plant at least 6 weeks before the first hard freeze of the year. Mulch these trees in well for their first winter and provide a deep watering prior to the first hard freeze.
The best trees for zone 6 are Green Giant Thuja, Cryptomeria Radicans, and Carolina Sapphire Cypress. These Fast-Growing trees make excellent privacy screens and windbreaks. They also look lovely as specimen or focal trees for your landscape. Nellie Stevens Holly is a broadleaf evergreen that can grow in zone 6.
If you live in growing zone 7 you are pretty lucky because most Fast-Growing Evergreen Trees grow in your zone. If you are zone 7a (the colder part) look to trees that are recommended for zone 6 for more cold hardy options. This means a harsh winter in your zone won’t affect your tree as much. Carolina Sapphire (Arizona) Cypress, Cryptomeria Radicans, Thuja Green Giant, Nellie Stevens Holly, and Leyland Cypress are Fast-Growing privacy trees that grow well anywhere within Zone 7.
You are super lucky! All of our Fast-Growing evergreens grow in zone 8! Choose the Silver Dollar Eucalyptus for a unique evergreen shade tree or Italian Cypress to add some drama and class to your landscape. Any of our Cypress will work great as a Fast-Growing privacy hedge. Choose the stunning Southern Magnolia for a flowering evergreen tree with southern charm.
Thuja Green Giant is the number one choice in Fast-Growing privacy trees. At a rapid growth rate of 3 to 5 feet per year, that is no surprise. For tropical climates, zone 9 and zone 10, Leyland Cypress, Italian Cypress, and Wax Myrtle are the best choices for Fast-Growing privacy. Cryptomeria Radicans and Arizona Cypress trees, like the Carolina Sapphire Cypress grow throughout most of the US at a rate over 3 feet per year. For additional choices, be sure to browse our online garden center.
Dig a hole 2 times as wide as the root ball and almost as deep. Place your tree in the hole and make sure the top of the root ball is level and slightly higher than the soil line. Backfill with the existing soil and water deeply until the water begins to pool on the surface. Add a layer of mulch to reduce watering needs, retain soil moisture, and keep weeds at bay. Extend the mulch a couple inches beyond the tree’s canopy. Use pine needles or pine bark to add acidity to the soil over time.
