View full detailsThis varies greatly with the type and variety of plant. One gallon bushes can be anywhere from 8 inches to 2 feet tall and 8 to 18 inches wide. Low growing, spreading plants tend to be shorter and wider. While upright trees and shrubs tend to be taller, but more narrow. Most flowering shrubs like Encore Azaleas will be rounded and as tall as they are wide. Dwarf shrubs tend to be on the smaller side because they grow slower above ground and to a more compact size at maturity.
Smaller bushes are less expensive so they are perfect for those of us on a budget. These younger plants often establish even faster than large plants. Once planted, 1 gallon shrubs grow and acclimate quickly.
1 gallon pots are generally 6 to 7 inches wide and tall. They are usually slightly taller than they are wide, but this varies within the plant industry.
We recommend planting most of our shrubs and trees in the ground for best results. But for plants that grow well in containers, like dwarf citrus trees, houseplants, Japanese Maples, Drift Roses, and Knock Out Rose Trees, up-pot to a container no more than twice the size of the current pot. Choose a plant container size around 2 gallons or less. This means the pot you choose will be around 8 to 10 inches tall and wide. A hanging basket will be closer to 12 inches across.
We carry 1 gallon, 2 gallon, and 3 gallon nursery pot sizes in shrubs, plants, and trees. Larger trees often come in 3, 5 or 7 gallon pots, but these are generally labelled by height. On occasion we carry smaller perennials in quart containers.
