Description

The Autumn Chiffon Encore Azalea is not your normal everyday azalea. It has all the great characteristics of an original azalea, but it has so much more to offer! With this shrub producing flowers for longer periods of time, it is a must have staple in every landscape design.

The Autumn Chiffon Encore Azalea flowers have a dark pink center that fades to a beautiful light pink, creating a gradient effect. During the flowering seasons, the trumpet shaped flowers grow in clusters at the end of each branch and blankets the entire shrub. This Encore azalea in an evergreen shrub, meaning that foliage is present all year around. No more naked shrubs! Small and compact, this shrub only grows to a height of 2-3ft.

From spring to summer you can enjoy pretty pink petals for the entire warm season. The Autumn Chiffon Encore Azalea is a compact shrub that fills in those smaller spaces in your landscaping. This shrub is great to use as a foundation planting or included in a natural wooded area. In the spring and summer, it creates a beautiful array of blooming flowers and during the fall and winter the shrub is a beautiful backdrop to other flowering plants in your beds and gardens. Plant in a mixed bed or even as a lone specimen.

This azalea is fairly heat tolerant and requires little to no maintenance once established. It is recommended to prune after the blooming season and fertilize in the early spring to enjoy a fully blossomed shrub during the growing seasons. Encore azaleas are a great option for adding beauty and color to your landscape.

How To Care

When planting your azalea be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new plants to thrive.

Planting time: Spring and fall are ideal times to plant azaleas. However, if you avoid freezing and extremely hot temperatures you can plant any time of the year

Sun: Full sun to part shade. Encore azaleas will perform best with at least 4-6 hours of sun. While your Encore azalea will still grow and even bloom in shady areas they are less likely to rebloom and the blooms won't be as prolific.

Soil: Azaleas prefer acidic soil that drains well. If you have alkaline soil, be sure to amend it. To acidify your soil amend with compost, elemental sulfur, or use fertilizers specific for acid loving plants. Mulching with pine straw or pine bark will help over time as they begin to break down, but are not an immediate solution. To improve drainage in something like a heavy clay soil, add compost and be sure to loosen up the soil well before planting.

Fertilizer: Choose a balanced slow release fertilizer. Fertilize in late winter or early spring before flowering for best results.

Pruning: You don’t need to prune Encore azaleas, but pruning your flowering shrub after they are done blooming can help encourage a bushier growth and renew an older plant. You can use pruning to control size, but don't prune of more than 1/3 of the plant for best results.

At 2 to 3 feet tall and wide at maturity this stunning azalea can even be used in foundation plantings. Fast mailing, careful packaging, healthy plants

I received my azaleas in less than a week with immediate tracking information provided. They came in a sturdy cardboard box, pots stapled to the box to stop any shifting, with cardboard inserts to keep them from impinging on each other. Each plant was moist & hydrated when received. The plants are in a plastic bag that’s zip tied closed to keep the dirt & moisture in. In conclusion, they were packaged in a way to ensure the condition was unchanged while in transit. Additionally, the plants had good branching, healthy green leaves, and good root growth (not root bound as often seen in local nurseries). I called Customer Service for clarification on instructions for the Slow Release Fertilizer. The man was polite, knowledgeable, & clear in his explanation. Overall, it was a great product that was thoughtfully packaged. Allow yourself some extra time to open the boxes & remove the shrubs because there are lots of staples to remove. But that’s exactly what kept the plants healthy!
